Friday, November 28, 2014, is the beginning of this year’s Nativity Fast. The Nativity Fast is one of the four Canonical Fasting Seasons in the Church year. We await his coming in anticipation of the great joy of His birth on Christmas Day.By our fasting we are reminded that this is not simply the birth of a baby, but God being united with man. It is the moment when the unchangeable is joined with the changeable, eternal life with mortal life, He who holds the universe in His hand and who created all comes in the flesh for our salvation.This is an event that should make us tremble with awe and wonder, bring us to humility and desiring to offer thanksgiving.The reality is that the Virgin birth of Jesus is the greatest miracle in the history of mankind. Now man can become like God and be united with Him in Paradise with eternal life. With a fast we are preparing for celebration of the beginning of the transformative journey He prepared for our salvation.We fast before the Great Feast of the Nativity in order to prepare ourselves for the celebration of Our Lord’s birth. As in the case of Great Lent, the Nativity Fast is one of preparation, during which we focus on the coming of the Savior by fasting, prayer, and almsgiving.Christmas Day is truly the day of our Salvation. This is the joy we should celebrate when this day comes.Thou who has adorned the vault of heaven with stars has been well pleased to be born as a babe; and Thou. Різдвяний піст – це останній багатоденний піст року. Він починається 28 листопада за новим стилем і закінчується 7 січня. Говіння триває 40 днів.Оскільки заговини на піст припають на день пам’яті святого апостола Пилипа, то його ще називають Пилипівкою.Різдвяний піст припадає на зимовий час. Він призначений для освячення четвертої пори року таємничим оновленням духовної єдності з Богом і підготовкою до святкування Різдва Христового.Різдвяний піст встановлений для того, щоб ми до Різдва Христового очистили себе покаянням, молитвою і постом, щоб з чистим серцем, душею і тілом могли благоговійно зустріти Сина Божого, який явився в світ, і щоб окрім звичайних дарів і жертв принести Йому наше чисте серце і бажання слідувати Його вченню. Піст тілесний без посту духовного нічого не приносить для спасіння душі, а навіть навпаки, може бути духовно шкідливим.За словами Льва Великого, Різдвяний піст – це наша з вами жертва Богу за зібраний урожай та плоди землі, які Він нам дав. «Як Господь ущедрив нас плодами землі, – пише святитель, – так і ми під час цього посту повинні бути щедрими до бідних.»Мета кожного християнина з часів Христа — Бог, Небесний Єрусалим. Туди ми можемо дібратися за допомогою «двох крил», як стверджують св. отці, — за допомогою молитви і посту.”Бережись вимірювати піст простим утриманням від їжі. Ті, які утримуються від їжі, а ведуть себе погано, уподібнюються дияволові, який хоча нічого не їсть, проте ж не перестає грішити “(Святий Василій Великий).Різдвяний піст дає нам можливість виявити Богові подяку за всі дари, якими Він нас обдарував і обдаровує, та проявити свою любов до ближнього, до потребуючого і до самого Бога.Бажаю Вам і собі, любі сестри і браття у Христі, щоб цей благодатний час Різдвяного посту допоміг нам приготувати наші серця до народження в них нашого люблячого Бога, Ісуса Христа. Бажаю, щоб через це приготування Христос міг у спокої, у теплі і огорнений нашою любов’ю наново народитися для нас і в нас, та щоб ми з радістю і гідністю могли заспівати під час Різдва: „З нами Бог, розумійте, народи, і покоряйтеся, бо з нами Бог. Почуйте всі аж до краю землі: Бо з нами Бог.“
