THE EPIPHANY OF OUR LORD
The Feast of the Holy Theophany (Epiphany) of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ is celebrated each year on January 19. The Feast commemorates the Baptism of Christ and the divine revelation of the Holy Trinity. At the Baptism of Christ, all three Persons of the Holy Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—were made manifest. Thus, the name of the Feast is Epiphany, meaning manifestation, or Theophany, meaning manifestation of God.The Biblical story of the Baptism of Christ is recorded in all four of the Gospels: Matthew 3, Mark 1:1-9, Luke 3:21-22, and John 1:31-34. .The Scriptures tell us that Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. Initially, John would not do this, saying that Jesus should baptize him. Jesus said to John, “Let it be so now; for it is proper for us in this way to fulfill all righteousness (3:15). John consented and baptized Jesus.When Jesus came up from the water, the heavens opened suddenly, and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him. The Bible records that the Spirit descended like a dove and alighted on him. When this happened, a voice came from heaven and said, “This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.” This was the voice of God the Father.Christ’s baptism in the Jordan was “theophany,” a manifestation of God to the world, because it was the beginning of our Lord’s public ministry. It was also a “theophany” in that the world was granted a revelation of the Holy Trinity. All three Persons were made manifest together: the Father testified from on high to the divine Sonship of Jesus; the Son received His Father’s testimony; and the Spirit was seen in the form of a dove, descending from the Father and resting upon the Son.The celebration of this Feast of our Lord begins on January 18, a day known as the Forefeast of Theophany. Depending on the day of the week, this could be an evening service with Vespers followed by the Liturgy of Saint Basil or a morning service with Matins and the Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom. Following the service on January 18, the service of the Blessing of the Waters is conducted.The Blessing of the Waters is conducted in the church; however in many places throughout the world services are conducted near open bodies of water. As a sign of blessing as Christ blessed the Jordan, holy water is poured into the body of water. The holy water from the church is given to the faithful to consume and to use in blessing their homes. In the weeks following the Feast, clergy visit the homes of parishioners and conduct a service of blessing using the holy water that was blessed on the Feast of Theophany.

БОГОЯВЛЕННЯ.ХРЕЩЕННЯ ГОСПОДНЄ.
19 січня Свята Православна Церква святкує Хрещення Господа Бога і Спаса нашого Ісуса Христа, або Богоявлення. Це велике двунадесяте неперехідне свято. Свято Хрещення Господнього – одне із самих древніх свят християнської Церкви. Його всановлення відноситься ще до апостольських часів. Древня назва свята – „ТЕОФАНІЯ”, що означає Богоявлення. Тридцять років Ісус Христос жив у Назареті зі Своєю Пречистою Матір’ю, Дівою Марією, і старцем Йосифом. Коли ж Йому виповнилося тридцять років, Він прийшов із Назарета на Йордан, щоб хреститися від Іоанна. Бог відкрив Іоанну, що це не простий чоловік, а Син Божий, через те Іоанн відмовлявся хрестити Ісуса Христа, кажучи Йому: „Мені належить христитися від Тебе; а Ти хочеш, щоб я хрестив Тебе”. Ісус відповів: „Не стримуй! Ми повині виконати все, що повелів Бог”.„І сталося у ті дні, прийшов Ісус із Назарету Галілейського і хрестився від Іоанна в Йордані. І коли виходив з води, зараз же побачив Іоанн небеса, що розкривалися, і Духа, Який сходив на Нього, мов голуб. І голос був з небес: Ти Син Мій Улюблений, в Якому Моє Благовоління”(Мк. 1, 9-11). Про це свідчать всі чотири Євангелія.В пам’ять про те, що Спаситель Своїм Хрещенням освятив воду, в цей день звершується водосвяття: напередодні свята Богоявлення вода освячується в храмах, а в сам день – в річках, або інших місцях, де беруть воду.Чудодійних дій святої води сподобляються лише ті, хто споживає її з живою вірою в обітниці Божі і силу молитви Святої Церкви, ті, які мають чисте і щире бажання змінити життя, покаятися і спастися. Хрещенська вода – це святиня, яка має бути в домі кожного православного християнина. ЇЇ бережно зберігають біля святих ікон. Хрещенська вода, як і Святе Причастя, приймається віруючими тільки натщесерце.

Christ is Born! Glorify Him!
The Feast of the Nativity of Jesus is one of the most joyful days of the Orthodox Church. It ranks next to the greatest holiday, the Resurrection of Jesus.It is one of the greatest, most joyful and wondrous events in the history of the world.The angel said to the shepherds, “Behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, Who is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you: you shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. Then suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly hosts, glorifying God and saying: Glory to God in the Highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” The Nativity of Christ is the Feast of Light. On Christmas Eve, the glory of the Lord enveloped the shepherds with the pure light from heaven and they were filled with great fear as the angel of the Lord gave them the Good News of the birth of the Savior. The God-Child born at Bethlehem is the Word of God made flesh, the true Light that enlightens all who are born into this world.The Nativity of Jesus Christ is a time to rejoice and give thanks for the gift and blessings of life. The Holy Church revels in and celebrates this day along with the heavenly bodies, trumpeting the glorious event – the Nativity of Christ. That which was planned from the beginning of time by God has taken place – the appearance of our Savior Jesus as a man. The Old Testament prophesies about Christ have been fulfilled – “has shone upon the world with the light of knowledge” – lighting the way for all on earth. The Nativity of Christ grants us all a treasure, which has no equal. Christianity is an invaluable gift for mankind – it gives meaning to life.May the feast be for us a time of prayer, the strengthening of our internal energies, the refreshment of our soul with Christian ideals, feelings and activities!All joys are manifest on this day; the newborn infant, eternal God, is born for our sake!We congratulate all of you with all our heart with the grand and glorious feast day of the Nativity of our Lord, God, and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Дорогі брати і сестри! Вітаємо Вас з радісними святами Різдва Христового, Нового 2015-го року Божого, святого Богоявлення і Хрещення Господа Бога і Спасa нашого Ісуса Христа. Різдво Христове – це свято чеснот, джерело наших радостей, перемога духа над плоттю; свято, завдяки якому небо відкрилося для людини.Господь творив і творить чудеса в усі часи. Він звершує їх і нині.Різдво Христове дає нам велику надію, що, покаявшись у гріхах, з великої милості Божої і неосяжної Його любові до нас, грішних, ми успадкуємо блаженне життя вічне.Осяйна ніч Різдва – це ніч згадки. Згадки про наше небесне походження, про нашу небесну батьківщину, про небесний сенс нашого життя. Нехай же у цю таємничу ніч, коли у мороці Віфлеємської печери спалахнув вогонь Божества, кожен із нас, чад Святої Церкви згадає про правдивий сенс життя. Вознесемо молитви до Богонемовля Христа, аби радість Різдва не залишала нас завтра та у наступні дні нашого життя.Бог воплотився на землі для того, щоб ми обожнювались з Ним через Його благодать. Ця дорога єднання людини з Богом починається з смиренного прийняття радісної новини про Народження Христа, з покаяння за всі свої гріхи прожитого нами життя і з твердою рішучістю почати нове життя зберігаючи і виконуючи всі заповіді Божі. Тож будемо молитися Богонемовляті Ісусу, щоб дух Його святої любові оселився в наших серцях, знову і знову відроджуючи їх для нового благодатного життя. Нехай наші серця будуть яслами, готовими прийняти Христа, а наші добрі справи — дорогоцінними дарами, які ми завжди готові принести Йому. І нехай у ці різдвяні дні відчують нашу любов і отримають нашу допомогу всі, хто цього потребує. Нехай ця любов і добродіяння зцілять рани образ і розділень, принесуть людям радість і порозуміння. І нехай щодалі сильніше звучить благовістя ангельського хору: “Слава в вишніх Богу і на землі — мир, в людях — благовоління!” Бажаємо Вам щоб Милосердний Бог послав всім Вам і Вашим родинам Різдв’яної радості, новорічного щастя і благословення Йорданською благодатю,миру та спокою для нашої України ! Найщиріші Вам побажання, благодатного радісного Різдва Христового!
